General Jean Coulloumme-Labarthe, commander of the Saint-Cyr Coëtquidan schools between 2003 and 2006, expressed the wish in 2004 to create a foundation that would promote the link between the military and the civilian world.
Created in 2006 and recognized as a public utility, the Saint-Cyr Foundation aims to enhance the value of defense research and promote the influence of the armed forces through an increased partnership with companies and civilian actors.
In 2010, in addition to continuing to support research, the Saint-Cyr Grande Ecole endowment fund was created to broaden the Foundation’s scope of action. The purpose of this structure is to promote the influence of the spirit of defense, the culture and the military know-how of the French Army and its officers in the French society through communication and training actions for French decision makers, both public and private.
At the end of 2019, the Saint-Cyr Foundation decided to refocus its activity on its sole statutory purpose of supporting research, with the training activity being taken over by a private commercial structure, SCYFCO, a simplified joint stock company created in early 2020. In 2020, André Autrand was elected Chairman of the Board of Directors and Jean-François Lafont Rapnouil was appointed General Manager.
While The Saint-Cyr Coëtquidan Military Academy enters a new era with its project “ESCC 2030” and that the Chief of Staff of the Army has renewed his confidence in the Foundation for to pursue its mission in the service of research, the ambition of The new management team aims to breathe new life into the Foundation by building on its solid foundation and expanding its activities.
