The scientific program focuses on the work of theses supervised or co-supervised by teacher-researchers from the Co\u00ebtquidan School Research Center with the support of the Saint-Cyr Foundation and funded by Safran.<\/p>\n

Two theses are currently in progress, including the one led by Pierre Puchaud, under the direction of Charles Pontonnier, on the development of a generic musculoskeletal model of the army soldier to support his physical activity.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/section>

Pierre Puchaud<\/strong>is a graduate of the Ecole Nationale Sup\u00e9rieure de M\u00e9canique et des Microtechniques in Besan\u00e7on and of Arts et M\u00e9tiers ParisTech in Biomechanics. Since September 2017, he is a PhD student at the Ecole Normale Sup\u00e9rieure de Rennes and is doing his thesis as part of the Safran Saint-Cyr Chair<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/section>

Can you remind us of the subject of your thesis and tell us why you chose such a problematic?<\/h4>\n
<\/div>\n
The title of the thesis is: Development of a generic musculoskeletal model of the soldier to support his physical activity. The problem is the result of a collaboration between Safran’s R&D departments and Charles Pontonnier, a professor and researcher at the Saint-Cyr Co\u00ebtquidan school. In the field – the soldier is subjected to a great deal of physical activity, such as walking long distances often associated with significant load carrying. Thus, assisting its locomotion and movement would limit fatigue and reduce injuries on the battlefield. As a result, the various parties agreed on the development of a model that is an attractive avenue for virtual exoskeleton prototyping. In the next few years, such a tool could then enter the exoskeleton design cycle.<\/div>\n

What are the objectives of the thesis?<\/h4>\n
<\/div>\n
The objective of my thesis work is to build one or more generic models to a population of soldiers so that they can intervene in the design cycle of an exoskeleton. To do this, it will be necessary to carry out a musculoskeletal characterization of the population of soldiers; and from each of these characterizations, to identify subgroups that have common specificities both from a morphological and muscular point of view.<\/div>\n

How is your research work organized?<\/h4>\n

The thesis work is spread over three sites:
\n\u2022 The Research Center of the Saint-Cyr Co\u00ebtquidan Schools (CREC),
\n\u2022 The laboratory Movement, Sport, Health of Bruz under the supervision of the ENS Rennes and associated with the UFR STAPS of University Rennes II,
\n\u2022 And the Institute for Research in Computer Science and Random Systems (IRISA) located on the Baulieu Campus in Rennes.<\/p>\n

At the beginning of my thesis, my time is divided between scientific readings and the use and improvement of existing computer tools. We have also submitted an ethics file to a personal protection committee in order to be able to carry out our future experimental campaign entitled “Musculoskeletal characterization of the lower limb”.
